Additions & Rejuvenations

This project involved transforming a 1960's suburban ranch residence for a client scaling down from a much larger home who wanted a "jewel box," a smaller home with fine finishes and detailing, for their retirement. We elected to emphasize the Prairie School lines of the house on the exterior and carry that theme through the interior details and finishes. The floor plan was completely reconfigured and a screen porch was added across the back of the house to take full advantage of the 1/2 acre site. The result was a complete transformation of this property from wallflower to a showplace residence for the neighborhood.

Located in Northwest Evanston, this Colonial home had fine Arts & Crafts details but was worn and lacked many of the spaces required by today's families. That problem was solved with a new addition containing: Kitchen, Breakfast Area, Family Room, and Mud Room on the 1st floor and Master Suite on the 2nd floor. The existing Arts & Crafts interior details served as inspiration for the new spaces. Whenever possible, the existing mahogany doors were refinished and reused throughout the new house. This house is now ready for another generation of appreciative owners.
